Repubblica di San Marino
The Republic of San Marino is well-known for being the oldest Republic in Europe and it is a truly independent state within the Italian border , 15 kilometers far from Rimini.
Its fascinating city centre and Mount Titano have been included in UNESCO World Heritage Site list. According to the tradition, the city origins are connected to San Marino, a Dalmatian hermit who reached that area in the IV century A.D. The city centre dotted with monuments, towers, museums and numerous boutiques; makes San Marino one of the main destinations for many Italian and stranger tourists who reach the Riviera.
Every year in July visitors can experience the “Medieval days” with historical reenactments, flag-wavers performances and the Palio dei Balestrieri. A real suggestive attraction is the ceremony for the election of the Capitani Reggenti which takes place every 6 months, the 1st April and the 1st October and which is attended by the local inhabitants and several tourists. At weekends from the 1st December to the 6th January, the “Natale delle Meraviglie” festival is held within the city centre with a lot of activities addressed to adults as well as children.
